Sugar Bowl @ Tulane (September 24th & 25th, 2022)

Wisco sailors Charlie Herrick '26, Sydney Mandell '26, Ryan Tatelbaum '25, Maeve Katics '26, and Ethan Jones ‘24 competed this weekend in the Sugar Bowl at Tulane in New Orleans, LA. The team drove to St.Louis on thursday, and after a stop in Memphis for lunch, arrived in New Orleans Friday night. Day one brought 2-6 knot Northeast breeze, and the fleet sailed Z420s. 4 races were sailed before a short lunch break, and after an on-the-water postponement the fleet was sent in for the day. Jonesy didn’t sail on Saturday, but had fun walking around the club, seeing the sights, and staying strapped with good snacks for the teammates who were competing. both divisions had an exciting day of racing. the sailors were tired after a long day of sailing, after taking a break the group got classic Creole New Orleans food on Bourbon street, then headed back to get rested for the day ahead. Day two was once again light wind, and the fleet sailed in FJs. Much like yesterday racing began at 10am in 2-5 knots coming from the North with flat water. Jonesy was able to crew for the first set of the day with Ryan. As the day heated up the breeze gradually shifted to the Northeast and began to die. After 8 total races the day was cut short and everyone was sent in again after another on-the-water postponement. The team ended up mid fleet at this competitive regatta, meeting our goal of beating the teams from Texas. The team was able to get a head start on the long drive back to Madison.
