Jack Schweda (Helm, '24), Nicole Giuliani (Main Trimmer, '24), Kate Thickens (Headsail Trimmer, '23), Cal Lutton (Headsail Trimmer, '26), Ryan Tatelbaum (Pit, '25), Dylan Gorman (Floater, '25), Iván Castãner (Mast, '24), and Mary Daniels (Bow, '24) competed at the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta in Larchmont, New York. The team arrived at the venue on Friday afternoon to get some practice as a team on our boat, the J/109 TBD graciously provided by owner Julie O'Dowd. Safety Officer Buttons Padin helped the team get dialed in for the coming weekend's races. On Saturday, competitors were treated to perfect racing conditions: 6-12 knots out of the Southeast. The team strung together a dominant performance, putting up straight bullets to give the Badgers a commanding lead at the end of the first day. The second day saw more breeze, testing the crew's cohesion and maneuvers, specifically on the downwinds. The team was unfazed, continuing the winning streak for the rest of the day to put up a picket fence for the regatta. The flawless performance was enough for the team to win the J/109 class as well as the Paul Hoffman Trophy, which is given to the overall victor of all classes. The team also won on style, with the entire team sporting handsome short-sleeve floral shirts on the final day of racing. Special thanks to Julie O'Dowd, Buttons Padin, and all those responsible for housing the team.
