Danmark Trophy (October 2nd & 3rd, 2021)

On October 2nd and 3rd Wisco Sailors rigged up and sailed the Danmark Trophy Regatta hosted by Coast Guard. Being the first regatta for a few of the sailors, they were excited to get out and on the water. Unfortunately, the wind was extremely light and sailors bobbed around waiting for the wind to fill in. Later in the day, the breeze picked up and it was an afternoon of light wind racing and tricky shifts. Despiste these conditions, Christain Spencer ’22 and Ally Hansen ’23 finished off the day with a best race of 4th in A division and Jonathan Bailey ’22 and Christina Dombrowski ’23 finished the day with 4 top 5 finishes in B division! Similar to Saturday, Sunday started off with minimal breeze. Around 12:30 pm, the wind filled in and competitors were once again able to get back on the water. Sunday’s breeze, around 3 - 8 knots, brought plenty of big shifts causing sailors to constantly be on their toes and adjusting their tactics. At the conclusion of the weekend, Wisconsin placed 15th out of 20 teams after sailing 12 races and gained a ton of new knowledge and motivation for the regattas to come. Big thanks to Coast Guard for hosting in less than ideal wind conditions and to heavy crew Noah Hallerman ’22 for all the support and positivity throughout the weekend!
